Jquery Plugin doesn't send Textarea data

Trying to send the fields with the Jquery plugin, but it seems it won’t send the contents of a text area? Tried changing it to a text field and it seemed to work. Is text area not supported?

Using onSuccess, as want to get the URLs from cloudfiles I can store this in the DB with the other fields in the form.

Is this the correct way to do this? wait:true, autoSubmit:false, onSuccess:function…

Kele.

Yes, from looking at the code it seems like textareas are indeed not handled properly yet.

As a workaround you could use notify_url and set wait: false. However, I’ll fix the jQuery plugin to take text areas into account for you and update this ticket once that is deployed.

Thanks Felix,

It just seemed that the jquery plugin with wait:true and autoSubmit:false gives you a bit more control over the process that a user would see and keeps everything on one page.

With notify_url, wait:false, it will submit the form (the action is set to your api?), was just wondering what it meant for “final form submit” or “submit your original form”, does it actually submit to your api again, but just without the upload, since that was done already by Jquery plugin?

And by using notify_url, the user really doesn’t have an idea when the process is complete right, since it pretty much happens behind the scenes?

Before using the Jquery plugin it seemed the process was:

  1. submit form to transloadit api
  2. display redirect_url - just a thank you page?
  3. once transloadit is complete it posts to notify_url, and this page actually processes all the form data and CDN urls, and stores it in DB (there’s no way for user to know when this is done right?)

Just wondering what best practice was for create user forms (other fields and uploads) that store data in db once it’s been encoded by transloadit. Using PHP.

And one more question? How can we implement form validation with the Jquery plugin? It seems with the plugin you can hit submit and it will try sending even if all fields are empty.

Sorry for all the questions in one response, let me know if you’d rather i broke it into other questions.

Yeah, the only downside is that if your user leaves the page you will not get a notification of transloadit being done. However, you can use wait: true in combination with notify_url to get the best out of both worlds.

And by using notify_url, the user really doesn’t have an idea when the process is complete right, since it pretty much happens behind the scenes?

In a previous version of our service we were showing a progress bar for everything that was happening internally. We would really like to bring this back, but most people seem to prefer using wait: false, so this hasn’t seen any attention lately.

Well, it depends. If you expect your job to finish quickly (< 10 seconds after uploading), I think wait: true makes for the best user experience. Otherwise just redirecting the user to a thank you page and using notify_url is probably better as the user doesn’t feel obligated to wait around, but he can already start doing more stuff on your site.

That should work just like it does for any other form. Just make sure your validation form submit event is attached before transloadit, that way you should be able to cancel the transloadit listener if the validation was not successful.

Let me know if you have any more questions! Sorry for not getting the textarea thing deployed yet, I’ll ping you once that is done!
